I'll be heading up for a spot of thrash Sat 19th June- I rather fancy some from the 25 this time 8)

No, I don't know for definite what loco will be out, but I'm sure Andre will tell us midweek.

Anyone else thinking of doing a bit of bashing that weekend?

Any news on a decision for the mainline loco doing Saturday's turn? Class 25 again, or 31 for a change?

A couple of weeks away yet, but on 10th July (part of Quad-Art week - amended timetable) the mainline diesel loco will get a rare turn on the Quad-Art coaches, on the 15.45 from Sheringham and 16.20 from Holt. It will then haul the 17.00 from Sheringham and 17.30 from Holt on a mark 1 set as normal. The remainder of the day is steam hauled.

I'm not sure which loco is allocated on that day yet.

The 31's been smartened up now- she's had a repaint of her cab ends as well as some patching up on the bodywork- she's also received some new fuel injectors!
The 25 also looks very smart at the no.2 end these days following repairs to severe corrosion in th floor area.

Great news about the 25- I'll be down tomorrow night for six round trips of front coach Sulzer etertainment commencing 09.45 Saturday morning without doubt- I haven't been 25-hauled on the NNR for 3 years, but that will change extremely soon.

Pete Tolley is the rostered driver, so some truly unbeatable thrash is guaranteed.

Some fantastic thrash was on offer from 31207 today- especially when hammering away from Bridge 303 and Kelling Heath Halt- a very well done to Pete Tolley for providing this superb audio-visual spectacle.

Yes it was 31207 and not 25057- the 25 failed this morning with a fuel leak- apparently diesel was sprayed everywhere- so we may well be having 31207 out for a few weeks, though hopefully this fuel leak is not serious and will not take long to fix.

The 31's looking very good in her current patched up railfreight grey.

A leaking flange joint on the primary fuel filter, with the pump running there's about 30 psi fuel pressure there. Andy Bennett (secondman), narrowly missed a diesel bath !! You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it, but don't forget Andy did two of the trips too.

I had quite a few chats with Andy on the day, so was well aware that he was driving, and he's getting quite adventurous with that 31's power handle, I must say! I especially enjoyed the way that both you and Andy slowed the 31 right down at Bridge 303 then just let her do the work on maximum power- if anyone reading this is an ardent fan of noise and clag and has not sampled the entertainment coming up to Weybourne from the Sheringham direction before, then they need to get down to the NNR! I was also well aware that the 31 was slipping on Kelling Bank in the morning- that must have taken some driving skill! In the afternoon, however, the sound of the 31's exhaust as she left Kelling Halt was some of the greatest thrash I have had anywhere.

Hope the 25's back soon. Diesel entertainment just does not get better than this- though I am glad that the 31 will be going into the shed soon for some extensive bodywork repairs (hopefully with the assistance of Club Members donations)- the amount of full power running could well see those screwed in plates falling off

Though the thrash was spectacular throughout, where (if anywhere) do drivers have the opportunity to use full power other than at Bridge 303 and leaving Kelling Halt?

15:45 ex Sheringham
16:20 ex Holt

The particular quoted round trip (15:45 from Sheringham and 16:20 return from Holt) will be a first for a diesel on the railway, and the first for a Class 25: this train, hauled by 25057, will be formed of the quad-art set (load four, obviously) hauled for the previous four trips by some tea-making device or another. The quad-arts look to have very good window-hanging and sound enjoyment potential because of the numbers of doors with fully opening droplights. They are a wonderful restoration job which we are all glad will be hauled by proper traction for once- OK they do not look that prototypical in LNER teak behind a blue 25, but, of course, when painted maroon they were hauled thousands of miles on the King's Cross commuter corridor between dieselisation in 1958-59 and withdrawal in the mid-60s, by classes 21, 23, 24, 26 (yes, of the same Sulzer loco family) and 31, and occasionally even class 20s- all in BR green with yellow panels.

A first? This is the first time a diesel locomotive has ever worked a passenger carrying train formed of the quad arts, and the first time I believe (like I say a million times, correct me if I happen to be talking rubbish) a Class 25 (not a 24 or 26 or any Sulzer Type 2 in general, but a Class 25 itself) has ever hauled quad arts in passenger service.

Just remember, bashers: no food/drink allowed in the quad-art coaches, and no standing on the seats. Window-hanging is naturally allowed as long as the two previous rules are not violated.

And the 17:00 from Sheringham and 17:40 from Holt round trip which will also be 25-hauled is formed of a Mk1 set with load 5, with, continuing the theme perhaps, a BR non-gangwayed suburban brake coach at the Sheringham end. So that's two Class 25 round trips in total: one with quad-arts, one with Mk1s.

Oh, and it's back to all-day yellow Saturdays on Saturday 17th July as the NNR celebrates its beer festival. Loco eto be confirmed, but if you have a bet on it now, there's a fifty per cent chance of the gamble paying off. ie either 25057 or 31207. I don't think there's much chance of a visiting diesel this year.

24 had a spin on the quad set last year and 25 took them out on test when they first entered back into traffic
