The only English Electric type 3 and could be found all over the network working all types of train. 309 of the class were introduced between 1961 and 1965. The class underwent a refurbishment program during the mid 1980's with 31 receiving ETH equipment to facilitate the replacement of steam heated trains in Scotland and others having various modifications for freight work. Many survive today in service with the various mainline rail companies with some even working in Spain and France, however most of the un-refurbished locos have been taken out of service. |
